Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo & Me by Ellen Forney

  • In this graphic memoir, cartoonist Ellen Forney explores her bipolar disorder and the relationship between “crazy” and “creative,” woven with stories of famous bipolar artists and writers. 

The Courage to Be Me by Nina Burrowes

  • An illustrated story about courage, self-compassion and hope after rape or sexual abuse, the comic is created by psychologist Nina Burrowes as she chronicles a group of women’s journey through therapy and recovery.


#speakthesecret by Karen Kleiman and Molly Mcintyre

  • Created for the Postpartum Stress Center, this comic strip depicts the silent struggle of postpartum distress, illustrating “the words that postpartum women are not speaking.”

  • Even though the comic is not mental health-specific, it deeply explores the state of being lost, lonely and confused as the central character pursues friendship, acceptance, and love. A sweet story that is charmingly drawn.
