Project: Press Play

Mental Health Hong Kong Organizations

Because we are based in Hong Kong, we want to list some contacts and organizations for our local readers to get involved with. If you are looking for resources outside of Hong Kong, please click here.

There are many great resources out there — should you have other recommendations, please email us and we’ll add them to this list for your fellow Press Players.

The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong is one of the few organizations in the city that provides confidential emotional support to people who are suicidal or are in general distress. They are non-profit, non-religious — serving everyone in need, regardless of age, creed, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, through their 24-hour hotline +852.2389.2222 .

Mind HK is a wonderful organization that provides great information such as the A to Z intro to Mental Health and What to Expect When Getting Professional Help, as well as a comprehensive directory of local service providers and community support. They regularly organize mental health awareness campaigns, events, and trainings (such as Mental Health 101 and Mental Health First Aid that our resident writer Edward had attended).

Mind HK has also been incredibly supportive of local programs and individuals who want to share their mental health story. They were instrumental in providing guidance and help for our own Press Play webcomic!

We read about Hands On through this SCMP article and though our organizations have not worked together, we at Project: Press Play are in full agreement with their philosophy — “volunteering to help the less fortunate can do wonders for one’s mental health.”

It can be a challenge to find a safe space in Hong Kong. Kudos to Minal Mahtani for establishing OCD Anxiety Support Group. The best part: there is no fee, only donations. Register for their next meet-up on the groups’s site.
